Doolittle Pond

The owner of the property came up to me while I was at our local Farmer’s Market and said, “I want to hire you.”

With my eyes widened just a little, I replied, “Well, uh, OK.”

He then said, “I want to commission you to do a painting of Doolittle Pond.”

We then agreed on a time for me to go take some pictures of the property and negotiate a price, which we did.

Doolittle Pond is a hidden jewel in the area, one that few people are aware of. It’s private property with no real access from the nearest main road, only a rutted dirt trail that only an SUV with some serious ground clearance could navigate. But what it USED to be was a regular destination for folks looking to fish, recreate, or just relax around a natural freshwater pond (something not common in this part of middle Georgia).

There are actually 4 separate wooden structures on the south side of the pond, but one can only see 2 from across the water. The owner requested me to “clean up” the area a little so that the 2 buildings up front could be better seen, particularly the old general store to the left.

When I FINALLY completed my work on this painting I was so pleased that I ordered my own reproduction to frame and place in my house. It will go along with the next painting I’m working on that will show the north side of the pond from the vantage point of the south side. It’s going to be beautiful.

If you would like to purchase a quality reproduction of the above painting, you can order a 12″x24″ Giclee for just $80. Click below.

If you would like to purchase an EMBELLISHED PRINT (one which I personally retouch and sign), you can order one for $140. Just click below.
